When two children want the same toy

A short cartoon about one truck and a plan for two, with your child as the hero. Watch it together on a calm day, then talk.

An example story beginning for this moment. It is not a cartoon of your own story.

Cartoons are made with AI. You preview each one before your child sees it. Automatic checks can miss things.

Illustration, made with AI: two friends each hold one side of a red toy truck while a dad kneels beside them, and a glowing firefly points to the far end of a block bridge.

Let's imagine

Example, made with AI

Mia (5) and Leo (5) both reach for the red truck. Each holds a side. Mia's dad kneels beside them. "Two hands on one truck. What's your plan?" "I'll drive it to the bridge," says Mia. "Then I drive it back?" asks Leo. They try it. Mia lets go at the bridge. "Your turn." Leo drives the truck back and parks it by her feet. Dad sits back and watches.

The characters in this example are made up. Your child can be the hero, with or without a photo.

What happens in the story

In the example above:

  • Both children want the red truck, and both hold on.
  • Mia's dad asks for their plan. He doesn't pick a winner.
  • Mia and Leo make an order themselves: to the bridge, then back.
  • Mia says "Your turn" and lets go. Leo parks the truck by her feet.

Talk-after card

Here are three gentle questions to talk about after this example. Best watched together, then followed by a chat or a game.

  1. What did Mia and Leo both want?
  2. What was their plan? What did Mia say at the bridge?
  3. When two people want the same toy, what would you like to try? You can tell me, show me, or skip it.

Use the ones that feel right. Skip any you like.

What a cartoon can and can't do

  • Watch together on a calm day, not in the middle of a tug-of-war over a toy.
  • A cartoon can't settle a real argument over a toy. In this example the children make their own plan. Yours may take its own time.
  • Every family has its own pace.
  • Each Zubby cartoon is made to be talked about together. It can't do the work of routine, patience or your child's doctor.
  • If you are worried about your child's sleep, eating, fears or behaviour, talk to your child's doctor, nurse or teacher.
